MCR ESEA PRIDE: Film screening of The Wedding Banquet

MCR ESEA PRIDE is back for 2024 after our successful first event last year, bringing together Greater Manchester and the northwest’s queer East and Southeast Asian community. This time we are celebrating the end of the Lunar New Year period and LGBT+ History Month with a special film screening of Ang Lee’s “The Wedding Banquet” at esea contemporary. This coincides with the award-winning and critically-acclaimed film’s 21st birthday.

The film, starring Winston Chao, May Chin and Mitchell Lichtenstein, follows the drama of a gay Taiwanese immigrant who marries a Chinese woman so she can get a green card, all while living in the US with his partner and hiding his sexuality, relationship and the truth from his parents.

The screening will start at 6.30pm (so we advise you to arrive at 6pm) on 27th February and tickets cost £3 each + fees. These minimal fees include free snacks and non-alcoholic drinks (this is a sober event) and the money raised goes towards helping us fund future events and projects like this. Tickets are limited to just 25 and unless not sold out won’t be available on the door so please book early and let us know if you can’t make it in advance so your place can be offered to someone else.

This event is proudly funded by the Manchester Pride Community Fund.
