Delve into PHM’s incredible archive collection to celebrate LGBT+ History Month 2024!

Talk to our expert Archive Team about how the collection continues to grow today and how it is used by communities, researchers, and individuals to explore the social and political stories of the past.

Material to explore:

  • The archive of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM)

  • The collection of Mark Ashton, the co-founder of LGSM, including original hand drawn fanzines

  • The papers of Michael Steed, former chairman of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, including material from the north west of England dating from the 1960s and 1970s

  • Magazines collected by the founder of the famous London bookshop Gay’s the Word, including issues of Gay Times and Bi-Community News magazines, and Gay News newspaper

  • Papers of Hugh Fell, former secretary of the North West Campaign for Lesbian and Gay Equality (NWCLGE)

  • Other material drawn from our Labour Party and Communist Party of Great Britain collections
