Trans Vegas

Trans Vegas comes to Manchester!

One of the UK’s leading transgender arts organisations Trans Creative has created a four day
trans arts festival at some of Manchester’s most prolific arts venues including; The Royal
Exchange Theatre, Manchester Art Gallery and Royal Northern College of Music.

From book readings, to live music, to performance, gallery tours and more, trans people will tell their own stories through this unique series of events. Get involved and celebrate all things trans!

  • Young Trans Tour - If you had a minute to make the world a better safer happier creative place for trans people, what would you do? This question will be explored with young (under 25) trans people as Trans Vegas: Trans Creative Arts Festival takes a trip to Manchester Art Gallery. This event is hosted by Kate O’Donnell of Trans Creative and is a key part of the work Trans Creative are doing to empower trans people to have a voice, to tell their own stories and to be a positive presence in the city.

  • Queer Sex with Juno Roche - Juno Roche’s frank and empowering ‘Queer Sex’ book bursts taboos to put trans and non-binary sexuality firmly on the agenda. Expect serious and sexy adult conversation and entertainment, including live music, readings, audience participation and revealing questions.

  • To My Trans Sisters - Young trans activist Charlie Craggs brings her new book to the Trans Vegas Arts Festival at this free event. ‘To My Trans Sisters’ is a collection of letters written by trans women for trans women. Contributors to the book include Shon Faye, Juno Roche, Juliet Jacques, Juno Dawson, Christine Burns, Kuchenga Shenje, Trans Creative’s Kate O’Donnell and many more. The event will include real talk on trans women’s lives with guest readings, audience questions and stimulating chat about race, class, age and the intersectionality of being trans.

  • Boys Don’t Cry – Boys Create! In the year 2000, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ earned Hilary Swank a 'Best Actress' Oscar for her depiction of young Nebraskan trans hate murder victim, Brandon Teena. 18 years after this watershed cinema moment, Hotpencil Press and Trans Creative present ‘Boys Don’t Cry – Boys Create’, an evening of Trans Masculinity, reclaimed and re-spun. This new show explores ways to show our bodies and our worlds as they are lived. Not through a mainstream lens! Not with fetishisation! Not with death and destruction! All hail the new 21st Century Boys!
