LGBT+ Groups in Schools: A Celebration

  • The Co-Op 1 Angel Square Manchester, England, M60 0AG United Kingdom (map)

This event is a celebration of LGBT+ groups in schools, highlighting the huge potential for positive impact that they can make. We have seen a huge recent upsurge in the number of schools setting up, or thinking about setting up, LGBT+ groups, (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus other related identities). In some instances, these have taken the shape of being campaign style groups, open to all students with a passion for social action and driving change. Others have been set up as weekly lunchtime clubs, offering a safe space for LGBT+ students to be. Whatever the purpose, the clear and visible message being given by these schools to their LGBT+ students, is one of support, with a commitment to true inclusion, equality and safety.

Thanks to funding from the Co-op Foundation, The Proud Trust has been working with groups of students from the Co-op Academies Trust, helping them set up LGBT+ groups in their academies, or design and deliver student led LGBT+ awareness campaigns. At this event, this work will be showcased along with other schools from the region that are doing great work through their LGBT+ groups.

Come along to this wonderful showcase, recieve your copy of "How To Set Up an LGBT+ Group in a School or College" guide, and be among the first to help us shape and design the upcoming LGBT+ GSA (Groups in Schools Alliance) network, coming soon...
