7pm: Grand Hall
Documentary screening: ‘My Recoverist Family’ by Amanda Ravetz and Huw Wahl. The film follows an LGBT+ group from Greater Manchester, exploring non-linear journeys through recovery from substance use and beyond. Arrived at through a process of nomadic art making with ideas generated via trips around the north west, these artists, Recoverists’ and makers came together to confront the existing narratives of recovery and ask “what lies beyond?” Through poetry, performance, film, music and installation, the project culminated in a once only live arts performance, the encounter creating a frame for the traces of lived experience, directed by Nick Blackburn at HOME, Manchester. The film reflects on David's unique perspective on what we need to recover from and on diverse recovery narratives.
8.15pm: Grand Hall
Post-screening panel discussion with David Hoyle, author Will Self, film maker Amanda Ravetz, curator Mark Prest; chaired by Professor Jackie Stacey from the University of Manchester.
