David Wojnarowicz: Close to the Knives

David Wojnarowicz was a groundbreaking American artist, musician, AIDS activist and writer. His work included film, photography, political writing, memoirs and more.
To celebrate his life and work, and to mark the exciting publication by Canongate Books of a new edition of his inspirational and uncompromising memoir Close To The Knives – featuring a brand new introduction by Olivia Laing (The Lonely City) – Superbia presents a night of art, recital, film, performance and conversation at Islington Mill.
The event will include an introduction to David’s work, short films providing cultural and historical context, recitals from his writing and from writing about him, performance artist Matt Fennemore, and a discussion with Matt Fennemore and Dr Monica Pearl of the University of Manchester, chaired and presented by Superbia Project Manager Greg Thorpe.
